Name of the Book : al-Lamhaat Ilaa ma fee Anwaaril-Baaree minadh-Dhulamaat
اللمحات إلى ما في أنوار الباري من الظلمات
Author : the scholar of Hadith and Grand Mufti of Jamia Salafia, Varanasi, India, Muhammad Rais Nadvi
About the book :
The dispute between the people of Hadith and the people of analogy (Deobandis) is ancient. In the early 1900s the Imam of the Salafees of his time, al-Mualamee al-Yamaanee, refuted the flag bearer of the Jahmites of his time, Zahid al-Kawtharee, with his outstanding response known as ‘at-Tankeel’.
In the mid 1900s once again the people of analogy decided to attack and belittle Imam Bukhari and his book of Hadith known as Sahih-Bukhari. This task was deployed by the most knowledgeable scholar of Hadith amongst the Deobandis known as Ustaadh Anwar Shah Kashmiri and his son-in-law Yusuf Bijnori.
Yusuf Bijnori wrote an explanation of Sahih Bukhari known as ‘Anwaarul-Baaree’, in which he clearly stated that this was a compilation of the benefits and notes of Ustaadh Anwar Shah Kashmiri and a defence of the Hanafi Madhab. He worked on this explanation for over twenty years and over fifteen volumes have been published. The introduction of Anwaarul-Baree is two volumes.
Our Sheikh, the scholar of Hadith and Grand Mufti of Jamia Salafia, Varanasi, India, Muhammad Rais Nadvi after seeking the aid of Allah, the Most High refuted ‘Anwaarul-Baaree’. This refutation is known as ‘al-Lamhaat Ilaa ma fee Anwaaril-Baaree minadh-Dhulamaat’ consisting of five volumes.
These five volumes are in fact a refutation of only the introduction of ‘Anwaarul-Baaree’, which consists of two volumes. The first volume of our sheikh was published on 20th Dhul-Qaadah 1399 AH, corresponding to 14th October 1979.
The manuscript of the fifth volume was given to me on the instruction of our sheikh, Rais Nadvi and when I visited him he was proof reading its typesetting. It was published in Pakistan.
Now, all five volumes are available electronically free to download from our website in the Urdu language.
It would not be a statement of exaggeration to say that al-Lamhaat’ is in reality a detailed completion of Imam al-Mualamee’s book ‘at-Tankeel’. As most of the principles of Jarh wa Tadeelhave been discussed in detail by our late sheikh, Rais Nadvi.
May Allah, the Most High, forgive our sheikh and admit him into Janatul-Firdous, ameen.
